What If God Doesn't Exist?

Micheal Shermer wrote of his conversion to Atheism (which he calls science) in his book How We Believe, The Search for God in an Age of Science, that “finding science was remarkably empowering and liberating. It gave me a sense of joy and freedom. Freedom to think for myself. Freedom to take responsibility for my own actions. Freedom to construct my own meanings and my own destinies. With the knowledge that this may be all there is, and that I can trigger my own cascading changes, I was free to live life to its fullest…If we are nothing more than star stuff and biomass, how special life becomes.” (pg 236-237).
After reading Shermer’s book I feel pity for him and fear him. He has “the freedom to think for myself,” he says. In other words, he can make up his own rules. He has the “freedom to take responsibility for my own actions” because there is no God to help him. He’s found the “freedom to construct my own meanings and my own destinies” since he is his own god and his destiny is ultimately the grave. He claims “we are nothing more than star stuff and biomass,” meaning we’re not special or privileged in the universe. He’s “free to live life to its fullest” because it’s the only life he’ll ever have. But what else has Shermer found in his atheism? He has found that…
He is an accident.
His death is the end of his being.
His love for his family is nothing more than a physical function of his brain. His love for his children is just his desire to pass own his genes.
There is no ultimate justice for the righteous and wicked. (His fate is no different than Hitler’s fate)
The words “righteous” and “wicked” mean only what he decides.
Christianity is the biggest hoax of the entire world.
If God doesn’t exist, then giving one’s life to save another is not heroic but incredibly dumb seeing that this life is all there is or ever will be.
He is nothing more than an intelligent animal (in his own opinion).
If God doesn’t exist, then the Bible writers who claimed to be speaking for God were liars.
Seeing just a few of the logical conclusions of atheism, aren’t you glad to be a Christian? We know by faith that: Life began on purpose, not accident (Heb. 11:3). Death is the beginning, not the end (Heb. 9:27). Love is a choice (Matt. 22:37-39). All people will receive justice in the end (2 Cor. 5:10). God has determined righteousness and wickedness, not popular opinion of men (Eccl. 12:13-14). Self sacrifice is heroic (1 John 3:16). We’re God’s children, not the earth’s by-product (Acts 17:28).
Praise God for God! “I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14).
